Riverdale's big buildings
Many Riverdale buildings are large co-ops and condos with doormen, service elevators and a managing agent. Typical rules: moves only during set hours, an elevator reservation, protective padding in the hallways, and a certificate of insurance on file before the truck arrives. Ask your super or management office for the move rules and forward them to us. Weekdays between mid-morning and mid-afternoon are usually easiest to book.
Many co-ops also require moves to be booked days or weeks ahead, so contact the board or agent early, even if you're still waiting on a closing date.
Hills, stairs and tight turns
Riverdale is steep. Houses near Fieldston and above the river often sit up a flight of exterior steps or at the end of a steep, narrow driveway. For heavy furniture like a piano, a large dresser or a sectional, we need to know about it ahead of time. Tell us about steps, doors and turns when you call.
Getting in and out
The Henry Hudson Parkway runs right along Riverdale, but it's closed to commercial trucks. Moving trucks use Riverdale Avenue, West 254th Street, Broadway and the Major Deegan Expressway instead. Heading north, the Saw Mill River Parkway is off-limits for the same reason, so Westchester moves go via Broadway or the Thruway.
