How Westchester moves differ
Westchester is a patchwork of small cities, villages and towns, each with its own rules. A few things we plan around:
Parkways are closed to trucks. The Bronx River, Hutchinson River, Saw Mill River and Cross County parkways don't allow commercial vehicles, so moving trucks use I-95, I-87, I-287 and local roads. A trip that looks quick on a map can take longer by truck, which is why we plan the route before move day.
Housing varies a lot. Within a few miles you can go from a downtown high-rise with a freight elevator to a hillside house with a long driveway and a full basement. Tell us what you have at both ends.
Rules vary by village. Some buildings and municipalities ask for a certificate of insurance, limit move hours or require parking arrangements for the truck. Send us the rules and we'll work within them.
Commuter schedules. Metro-North's Hudson, Harlem and New Haven lines and the roads along them are crowded at rush hour. We try to schedule around peak traffic when your timeline allows.
